Chapter Leadership

The Michigan Chapter of the AMTA is managed by a volunteer board.

Board members are elected for two year terms.

Board Roles

Third Vice-President
As 3rd Vice President my role is to support the president, attend all meetings, help with providing input on the budget along with representing the members of our chapter. I also serve on various work-groups and as a committee chair delegated by the president. Additionally, I’m the MERT Committee Chair which encompasses organizing responder & leadership trainings, outreaches and networking with local EMS & national disaster response teams and nonprofits involved within the community that respond to disasters. – Julie Finn

Treasurer
I’ve found that the fulfilling the role of the AMTA-MI Treasurer has been the best way for me to give back to the chapter that has provided with me a great deal of professional growth. The way I see it, it’s my responsibility to monitor every single aspect of the Chapter’s funds. As a voting member of the board, I have significant influence on how we utilize our funds, so it’s even more important to me that I know where every cent we bring in comes from, and where every cent we spend goes to and why. It’s not just my hard-earned money that goes into our budget, it’s money from every AMTA-MI chapter member. – Christopher Yee

Immediate Past President

The primary role of the Immediate Past President (IPP) is to assist and support the President.  In our chapter the IPP is a voting board member.  According to the AMTA Toolkit that has all of the offices listed and their purpose, the IPP is to serve as “senior statesperson” within the chapter.  We are to use the skills we learned on the board, and in particular that of the position of President.  When I was IPP right after being President, I was elected to the National Board of Directors and so could not be a voting member of the chapter board.  I took more of a back seat but have always been willing to assist the board in many capacities.  This time, it was kind of a surprise to be brought back in this position for a year.  I was the next one in line with Todd being President as I was the last President prior to him who completed my term(s), was still a member in good standing, and still lived in Michigan.  I have had a very busy year indeed.  The other thing the IPP does is pick up slack here and there, work on projects as appointed by the President and approved by the Board.  It has been a pleasure to share with this Board my knowledge and experience, in hopes that they will learn more about how AMTA does business, and have fun volunteering.  I also spent a lot of time on this website, and with the Education Committee.  If you haven’t yet volunteered for the chapter, try it!  Get on a committee or workgroup to start out, or run for Delegate!  -Terry Hirth Caldwell

Delegate Roles

Being a delegate for AMTA is both a honor and privilege. It is a great way to get acquainted with the inner workings of a state chapter, as well as the organization at the national level.. The main duty for delegates is to attend the national convention and participate in the House of Delegates. This is where decisions are made such as positions statements and AMTA recommendations. The convention a great way to connect with other chapters to network and exchange ideas. With new tools in social media the delegate role will be expanding as more members discover they can interact with the board of directors as well as delegates. Delegates are also welcome at most of the board meetings. While we do not vote, our input is welcomed and there are opportunities to participate in committee work. – Lyn Austin

I am a Delegate for the AMTA Michigan Chapter. I was elected last year at our Annual Meeting 2011, for a one year term. As a delegate I feel that my most important duty is to relay as much information to the members of our chapter that elected me to this position. I feel that it is important to keep them up to date on the activities of our Michigan Chapter and also the National Board. Another duty as a delegate is to attend the AMTA National Convention and represent our Chapter in the House of Delegates – Delegates from all over the country come together and vote on Proposals that have been formulated by other massage therapist in regards to areas that massage therapy is beneficial to our clients and that AMTA states they are supportive of these position statements. – Eileen Sesko
